ive been reading a blog today. its sort of how i do it. watch the whole television season in one sitting. read a blog throughout my day and then forget to ever check it again. this one though… i think maybe it will stick.

www.somuchtotellyou.co.nz

dont remember how i came across it but halfway through reading it realized the writers are somehow connected to the man who’s brother and sister make jewelry in bali who’s house i went to once while my friend dropped him a small package in a bedroom while kayla and i read art books in the living room. i remember it was very white and their jewelry was filled with lovely metals and skulls: http://www.zoeandmorgan.com/

anyway, the treats of the visit:

first off this mixtape is killer. especially about 4 minutes into it.

i was reminded of my crush on alison mosshart,

which reminded me that i dig the new The Dead Weather.

then i saw a link for the sprouted kitchen and all of its really good looking healthy food

and i had to head out for a bike ride to lunch.

so that was the end of it. check em out.

ps. ok… one more mixtape

First Aid Kit’s new album has been getting me through a writing all day sunday… have you heard ?

also, last night’s show at together gallery was wonderful. brainstorm played such good songs, as did Sielaff/Schonberg a band comprised of Lisa Schonberg (from one of my fave bands – explode into colors) on drums and Sielaff on bass clarinett. It was my first time listening and i liked much…

i also bought a painting by Rebecca Artemisa Urias. Go to the show and take a look.

thanks also to my sweet friends for a really fun weekend.

Los Angeles Darlings

Hello Darlings,

If you’re so inclined you should check out my friend Tim Karpinski’s art show in your area this Friday
Opening November 6th from 7-11p in the main room of ThinkSpace Gallery (4210 Santa Monica Blvd – near Sunset Junction).
Artist Turf One will also be showing in their project room.

Lovers will be playing at the opening and I’m so jealous you get to go drink beer, look at new work and check out Tim’s installation “Fear Fort”!

If you can’t make the opening the show will be up all month. You should also all probably hurry up and visit me in Portland because I miss you.

Jelly.

put up

so i’ve become a bit a forager. stealing chesnuts from the sidewalk on my way home from the bar, and plucking up concord grapes from an abandoned alley fence, pointed out by mia nolting, on her way from extracto to the gallery.

The grapes prompted a jelly making session, and the jelly making session has in turn become an obsession with “putting up” AKA preparing for winter by filling jars with food.

and im not kidding folks, its sort of exciting!

Jelly from the Alley – a recipe adapted from Saving the Season
a basket of plucked up grapes
1/2 of a just-ripe apple, thinly sliced for pectin
1 cup sugar
a sprig of fresh rosemary (“borrowed” from my neighbor)

1 Put grapes in a pot and smush about. Add the apple slices and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes (people talk a lot about making it cloudy buy squishing too much but its jelly. a little cloud is good i think!)

2 Strain the mixture into a bowl and refrigerate overnight (or not)

3 Pour the juice through a damp jelly bag (or a double layer of cheesecloth). Add the sugar. Bring to a boil, skim and reduce the juice over moderate heat until it sheets off the back of a cold spoon.

4 turn off heat and drop in the stolen rosemary. you can also add some peppercorns if you want. Leave it to steep for maybe 5 minutes while you prepare your jars. Remove the rosemary and return the liquid to a boil briefly. Ladle your jelly into jars, seal and process in a boiling-water bath for 10 minutes for half-pint jars.

drop off at your friends houses and eat it with some toast. yum.
